Twitter CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey announced on Twitter that he will spend November traveling around Africa and visiting entrepreneurs.
In addition to Twitter, Dorsey is the co-founder and CEO of financial technology startup Square, which provides payments hardware and software to small businesses.
Square does not yet operate in Africa. Originally designed to help small businesses accept credit cards, Square has evolved. More than 15 million people use Square’s Cash App for peer-to-peer payments, and its lending business made more than $500 million in loans in the first three months of 2019, according to Quartz.
The company launched in the U.K. in 2017 and has been offering bitcoin trading since January 2018.
Dorsey said he will spend time in Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa. Kenya, which prides itself on being the Silicon Savannah, is conspicuously missing from the list, although full details of the trip have yet to be unveiled.
Some of the entrepreneurs Dorsey said he’s meeting include Noel Daniel, co-founder and managing partner of tech startup funder, Kudu Ventures, and Betelhem Dessie, a young Ethiopian developer who is the founder and CEO of iCog-Labs Anyone Can Code.
